Muharram 1448 Program — Commemorating Imam Hussain (a.s.)

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ الحُسَيْن

Al Zahra Learning Center invites you and your family to commemorate the holy month of Muharram 1448 with nightly majalis remembering Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), his family, and the martyrs of Karbala. The program runs every night from June 15 to June 27, 2026 at our center in southeast Calgary, and everyone is welcome.

What is Muharram?

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar and a sacred period of mourning for Shia Muslims. It marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (peace be upon him), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), and his companions at the Battle of Karbala. Communities gather each night in majalis (gatherings of remembrance) to reflect on the stand of Imam Hussain (a.s.) for justice, truth, and faith.

Nightly program — 7:30 PM

Each night of the program includes:

• Arabic lecture by Hajji Latif Al Taie
• English lecture by Sayid Ali Zaini
• Latmiya (mourning elegies) with Sayid Ahmed Shubbar and Issam Alkarbalaei

Thawab (food) will be distributed at the end of each night’s program.

Everyone is welcome

The program is open to the whole community — families, youth, and guests of all backgrounds are warmly welcome. Lectures are delivered in both Arabic and English, so everyone can benefit from the remembrance of Imam Hussain (a.s.). The majalis are held at Al Zahra Learning Center, 3750 46 Ave SE #109, Calgary, in the heart of southeast Calgary.
