About
Al Zahra Learning Center is a Shia Islamic center in southeast Calgary that aims to inspire children, youth, and the whole community with the light of Prophet Muhammad (s) and his noble family.
Who We Are
Al Zahra Learning Center — also spelled Alzahra Learning Center — is a Shia (Twelver / Ithna Ashari) Islamic center serving the Muslim community of southeast Calgary and the surrounding area. Located at 3750 46 Ave SE #109 in the T2B neighbourhood — near Forest Lawn and Ogden — the center functions as a masjid, husayniyya, learning center, and community space, and welcomes families of all backgrounds.
The center is named in honour of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the leader of the women of the worlds. We strive to be a second home for every family: a place where our children learn their faith and language, build a bond with the Quran and Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), and grow in good character and service to the community. Everyone is welcome at all of our programs.
Our programs include Duaa Kumail every Thursday, the Madinatul Ilm Saturday school for grades 1–12, Muharram and Safar commemorations, the holy month of Ramadan, and lectures in both English and Arabic throughout the year.
Our Mission
We serve our community in Calgary through three pillars: education, worship, and community.
Education
Saturday school, Arabic and Quran classes, and weekly lectures in both English and Arabic.
Worship
Duaa Kumail every Thursday night, and commemorations through Muharram, Safar, and the holy month of Ramadan.
Community
Boys and girls clubs, family programs, and service to the Muslim community of Calgary and beyond.
Our Board
Al Zahra Learning Center is run by a volunteer board from our community here in Calgary.
